The University of Virginia, opened in 1825 by Thomas Jefferson, is a renowned public research university in Charlottesville, Virginia. According to US News and World Report’s ranking, the University of Virginia, also known as U.Va, UVA, or Mr. Jefferson’s University, is ranked in top 25 among the all national public & private universities. Also, the UVA Grounds is named a World Heritage Site on UNESCO’s prestigious World Heritage list.
The University of Virginia offers 48 bachelor’s degrees in 46 fields, 94 master’s degrees in 64 fields, 55 doctoral degrees in 54 fields, 6 educational specialist degrees, and 2 first-professional degrees in different disciplines. The schools of the University for both undergraduate and graduate students are School of Architecture, College of Arts & Sciences, School of Engineering & Applied Sciences, Curry School of Education, McIntire School of Commerce, and School of Nursing etc., whereas Graduates School of Arts & Sciences, School of Law, and Darden Graduate School of Business Administration are for graduate programs. The UVA’s athletics program is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference and competes in Division I-A. The ‘Virginia Cavaliers’ have won 16 recognized NCAA National Championships. The UVS also has a number of notable secret societies such as the Seven Society, Z Society, IMP Society, Eli Banana, TILKA, the Rotunda Burning Society, the Purple Shadow etc.
To get admission at the University of Virginia, the main focus is on the credentials such as performance in secondary-school program, results from SAT1 or ACT, results from two SAT Subject Tests, Guidance Counselor’s recommendation, and extra-curricular involvement & honors etc. Apart from all these, the intellectual ability, academic achievement, and personal qualities also contribute while getting admission in UVA.
