University of Pennsylvania, located in Philadelphia, was founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1740. Franklin was known for his devotion to education support for intellectual pursuits and commitment to the public good. The principles of the University of Penn are entrepreneurship, innovation, invention, out reach, and a pragmatic love of knowledge. Penn University pursues knowledge beyond traditional boundaries and it is ranked among top 10 universities in the annual US News & World Report Survey.
Penn University offer full-time and part-time programs for undergraduate, graduate and professional students, program for working professionals, summer programs, continuing education, and distance learning in various disciplines like nursing, applied science, medicine, science, arts, biotechnology, communication, business, management, and veterinary medicine etc. At present, there are more than 23,000 students and 4000 faculty members at the university campus. Penn has four undergraduate schools and twelve graduate and professionals schools.
University campus includes green lawns, landmark architecture, athletics, academics, research, scholarship and cultural life. The student to faculty ratio is 6:1. Pen also offers opportunities to study abroad on more than 100 programs in 36 countries. At campus, one can feel the diversity of different cultures and religions with approximately 40 percent of students are Black, Asians, Native Americans, and Hispanics etc. The University library contains about 5.5 million books, 4 million microform items, 284,000 e-books, 14,000 e-journals, and 12,000 videos etc.
The Undergraduate Schools are: Schools of Arts and Science, Schools of Engineering and Applied Science, School of Nursing, and the Wharton School.
The Graduate and Professional Schools are: Annenberg School for Communication, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Dental Education, Graduate School of Education, School of Design, Law School, School of Nursing, School of Medicine, the Wharton School etc.
